The Journey

From the highlands of Jalisco to your glass.

HotTorque Tequila began as the vision of Laszlo Till. When gin was the only spirit anyone talked about, he was deep in Mexico's agave country. He told many people that tequila would be the next frontier. No one listened.

He went ahead anyway. It took years of travel between Australia, the United States and Mexico, a setback that sent him back to the very start, and risks most people would have walked away from. Every time, he chose to keep going.

The result is a tequila made his way: a refined spirit to sip and appreciate, and never a party shot. Laszlo is the first West Australian to develop his own tequila profiles, and at the time was one of only three people in Australia to have done so.

The launch was planned for the United States. When the pandemic closed that door, he started again at home in Perth, going venue to venue to show people what 100% blue agave tequila should taste like.

The Process

Six steps, and none of them rushed.

Every drop tells a story. No diffusers, no shortcuts, ever.

  1. La jima

    Harvest

We start with 100% Blue Weber agave, fully matured for over seven years and selected from both the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco.

  2. El horno

    Cook

The agaves are slow-roasted for 36 to 54 hours in centuries-old brick ovens, then blended 50/50 with autoclave-roasted agave.

  3. La molienda

    Extract

A traditional molino gently squeezes the fibres to release the sweet juice, which is washed with pure, filtered water. The leftover fibres are recycled.

  4. La fermentación

    Ferment

Our own wild yeast and a slow fermentation of up to 60 hours let the flavours develop and deepen.

  5. La destilación

    Distil

Distilled twice, slow and steady, in traditional copper pot stills. We keep only the heart of the distillate.

  6. El reposo

    Rest

Blanco is bottled clear. Reposado rests for at least three months in scorched American white oak, and Añejo for over twelve months in smoked American white oak.
